Liverpool (UK) – Thursday 7th – Monday 11th November 2013
Fifty-two global football fans from seventeen countries gathered in Liverpool, England recently for an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Made up of retail end-users who had bought STANLEY products (in order to enter the competition), as well as key business guests the group were set to experience a true money can't buy experience.
The lucky winners of the STANLEY “Global Striker Challenge” took part in a four day event that allowed them to meet and train alongside Liverpool FC players and legends while competing for the opportunity to take penalty shots at Anfield during halftime of a Barclays Premier League home match.
The week’s activities began with a welcome dinner at the Beatles Story Museum hosted by Liverpool FC legend Didi Hamann. The winners experienced an evening of music and fun while also receiving the opportunity to meet first team players Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho. Day two consisted of an Academy training day lead by Liverpool FC coaches and legend Robbie Fowler. Winners competed in four different skills challenges where three individuals earned the right to advance to the finals at Anfield.
Legend Ian Rush greeted all winners as they arrived for match day hospitality offering some final advice for the three finalists. Liverpool jumped out to a 3 – 0 halftime lead and the crowd was boisterous as our finalists walked onto the pitch. In the end, Gionata Possenti of Italy was crowned Global Striker Champion as he shot the winning goal into the right corner.
Earle Smola, Director of Corporate Brand Design and Sponsorships, Stanley Black & Decker explains: "Although our winners came from all parts of the globe and spoke many different languages, they each share a common passion for the game of football and the STANLEY brand. It was truly a pleasure to host these great competitors and football fans for a weekend we will all remember for the rest of our lives. I would like to congratulate everyone on their strong performance including this year’s “Global Striker” winner, Gionata Possenti from Italy."
As one guest noted, "The past few days were one highlight after another, highlights that I could not imagine in my wildest dreams. From meeting current and former Liverpool players, the Beatles tribute, tour of Anfield, the game itself, the Liverpool FC Academy and meeting people from all over the World. All these special events will never be erased from my memory, thank you STANLEY!"
